WHAT TO EXPECT
New patients may fill out the intake forms online or arrive to their appointment 10-15 minutes early in order to fill out intake forms. If a patient prefers a masked session, please let us know. During the initial consultation we will review and discuss your medical history in order to determine a treatment plan catered to your healthcare needs. The treatment plan may include follow-up functional medicine assessments, acupuncture treatments, lifestyle & dietary recommendations, gua sha (stimulating the skin), tui na (manual therapy & myofascial release), an Eastern Medicine herbal formula (supplement) prescription, cupping and/or moxibustion (thermal therapy). For those without health concerns there’s the option of scheduling routine maintenance for invigorating the immune system, improving sleep and reducing stress.
After the initial appointment there may be recommended follow-up visits necessary in order to work toward achievable health and wellness goals. When utilizing functional medicine, acupuncture and Eastern Medicine there may be immediate results or the need to follow-up with around 6-12 consecutive weekly appointments. Patients with complex cases or chronic conditions may need regular visits. The patients that find the most success schedule 1-2 appointments per week for the first 6 weeks. Once they find relief from their initial problem they move towards scheduling 1 appointment per week, bi-weekly or once every 4 weeks. Happy patients report that regular appointments improve their quality of life overall.
During acupuncture treatments the patient may experience either no pain or minimal pain. The single use sterilized surgical steel acupuncture needles utilized are tiny compared to hypodermic needles used for blood work. In fact, it’s possible to fit around 30 acupuncture needles inside of a hypodermic needle. The patient may experience subtle sensations of pressure, numbness or moving sensations throughout the body. There’s also the option of receiving no-needle electroacupuncture or acupressure. Acupuncture sessions may vary from 10 to 45 minutes.
